Don Dennis, Mark Grace enter NBC Hall of Fame

“..the most successful figure in NBC history”

Four men, including former major-leaguer Mark Grace, will be inducted into the National Baseball Congress World Series during this year’s tournament, July 31-Aug. 14 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Grace, longtime NBC player-manager Carl Kentling, Alaska general manager Don Dennis and longtime fan “Baseball” Bill Gwinup make up the class. Kentling and Gwinup will be inducted between games on Aug 7, while Grace and Dennis’ times are to be determined. Continue reading

2006: Andy Stankiewicz joins ASU coaching staff

 Andy Stankiewicz has been named an assistant coach for Arizona State University baseball, Head Coach Pat Murphy announced today. Stankiewicz joins Turtle Thomas, who was also named to the ASU coaching staff today, as the newest members of the baseball staff.Stankiewicz spent 2005 as the manager of the Staten Island Yankees, the New York Yankees Class A affiliate. Stankiewicz led Staten Island to the 2005 NY-Penn League championship. He managed in Staten Island for two seasons before becoming the Yankees Southwest Scout this past off-season. Stankiewicz also spent two seasons as a defensive coordinator and roaming infield instructor for the Yankees minor league system, in addition to one season as the hitting instructor for the Rookie League Gulf Coast Yankees. 1985: Lineups for Nicks and Miners

In 2015, during the first thorough cleaning of the Growden Memorial Pressbox since 1967, two pieces of paper were found lodged in a crack.  These turned out to be the lineup pages used by the North Pole Nicks broadcast team in 1985.  They contained the starting lineups for the Nicks and the visiting Mat-Su Miners.

Among the Nicks starters are major leaguers Mark Grace, Chris Donnels, Paul Faries, Randy Hennis, Alex Sanchez, Andy Stankiewicz, and Todd Ziele. Continue reading
